 Hello There!

Welcome to the very first edition of Viv's Monthly Newsletter.

The aim of this newsletter is to keep all of my English Language students informed of any new developments, show the range of extra material available for you to borrow free of charge, and also to provide a forum for student's work and comments.

What's New?

In this first edition you will find a copy overleaf of the films in:

Viv's video club.

You can borrow a video for up to one week. Origin doesn't refer to where the film was made, but the type of English spoken. Video No. is the tape number. If someone has already borrowed the tape then none of the films with that number will be available. Film No. is the position of the film on the tape. SAP & Captions can only be used if your tv has these on it.

If your tv doesn't have a SAP key then I'm afraid you can't borrow films with SAP as you will not hear anything at all.

The next columns show if the film is subtitled or dubbed in various languages and Speed refers to the speed at which the film was recorded. Again, EP films can only be seen if your video has this function.

Finally, Level (EFL) is to give you an idea of the level of difficulty of the film. For example, if you are using a course book at intermediate level, films at levels 1, 2 & 3 would be suitable. Levels 4 & 5 would be a bit too difficult and you may have problems understanding the film. I have done worksheets to go with all of the CNN video's.

What's coming?

In future editions, there will be information on:

Viv's English Library

Viv's Self Access Centre and Viv's Computer Assisted Learning Material.

Extras!

Is one of your English skills worse than the others? Do you want to improve your ability to read, write, speak or listen ???????????????????

If you find writing more difficult, why not look for a pen friend? Just give your address to Viv (home or E-mail) and I will try to put you in touch with another student who you can write to in English.

In the past I tried to set up a conversation club. If you would like to practice your speaking, tell Viv and he will try to match you with another student at the same level. However, for this to work you must have the MOTIVATION.

Do you really want to speak and write better in English? If so, do something about it!

To finish with, here are some jokes taken from Headway Upp. Intermediate.

Why was the doctor angry?

Because he had no Patients!

Why will you never starve in the desert?

Because of the sand which is there!

Ooooh terrible!
