 What's new?

Two weeks ago, Viv went to buy his cigarettes at the Galeto do Leblon as usual, and he got a very pleasant surprise. The price had gone down! It was such a nice feeling that I have decided that my students deserve the same agreeable sensation. Therefore, from next month (August 1999) I will be giving you a bill only in reais. To clarify what I'm doing let me show you the current prices, and what they will be after the change:

NOTE ! THIS INFORMATION IS NOW OUT OF DATE.

Previous prices:

At Viv's flat per hour:

Individual: $18x1.22=R21.96

Group: $24x1.22=R29.28

At student's work or home:

Individual: $20x1.22=R24.4

Group: $24x1.22=R29.28

New prices:

At Viv's flat per hour:

Individual: R21 per hour.

Group: R24 per hour.

At student's work or home:

Individual: R24 per hour.

Group: R30 per hour.

As you can see, there has been a reduction in all prices.

(Viv isn't currently teaching groups outside Leblon).

I have decided to make another change to the cost of classes:

  1. The total cost will be rounded up to the nearest figure of 10 Reais, so R75 will become R70 and R76 will become R80. (If students would prefer to keep the old R5 system, there is no problem for current students).

I hope that these changes are easy enough to understand. On the back of this month's newsletter, you will find a copy of the new conditions in English. If you would like to have a copy in Portuguese, just ask Viv.

Welcome!

A warm welcome to Eduarda, Elaine, Junior and Raphael, who have started a new course this month.

Good luck!

I wish Paula Cunha Lima the best of luck for the future. She is finishing her English course to be able to concentrate on her post graduate studies.

On the internet

Are you interested in reading the words of the songs you hear on the radio or tv? If you are, and have access to the internet, here is a good way to find out what people are singing. First go to the 'Yahoo' site (I've found this the best):

http://www.yahoo.com/

Then type in the following:

Lyrics + name of group, singer or song

You should then find a list of sites about the musician, and some of them may have the words to the song you like.

Good luck to everyone who is doing university exams, and have a nice holiday if you're lucky enough to have one.

Viv is expecting some more student contributions for next months newsletter!
