Carnival is here again, and with it, another edition of the Newsletter.

Welcome!

Firstly, a warm welcome to Adriana, Barbara, Carolina, Isabel and Milena, who have recently started English courses with Viv.

Welcome back!

It's nice to see Luis Fernando, who is back again after taking a month off while settling in to his new job.

Good luck!

I wish Monica the best of luck for the future. Unfortunately she had to terminate her course due to difficulties in arriving for her classes on time. I also wish good luck to Milena, who will be going to the UK in April.

Don't forget!

Have you done your C.V. in English? Are you sure that there aren't any mistakes in it?

As you are currently having classes with a native English teacher, why don't you take the opportunity to write your C.V. in English. Hopefully, you'll never need it, but if you do, it will be ready, and if you aren't still having classes with Viv in the future, you won't have to look for someone to help you correct it.

As I mentioned in the fourth edition of the Newsletter, I have a worksheet on CV's, and examples to help you if you want to prepare one.

Carnival!

Viv will not be teaching either at Shell or in the city centre during the Carnival (from the 26th Feb. to the 3rd of March). However, I won't be leaving Rio, so if you would like to try to arrange a class at Viv's flat during Carnival week, just let him know. For student's already having classes in Leblon, just tell Viv if you'd like your class normally, or would prefer to have a week off classes.

What's new?

The last Newsletter explained that Viv was hoping to improve the technological resources available for teaching. Students at Shell and Dresdner Bank will now be able to see the first results of this investment.

Music and songs can now be played on a portable MP3 player and heard through flat powered speakers (much better than the headphones which didn't let Viv hear what was being played!). If you would like more information on MP3s, ask Viv for copies of Newsletter editions 12 and 13.

When possible, I would also like to upgrade my class video facilities at home, and buy a camera to use for filmed interviews.

Student's contributions

This month's composition was written by Ricardo Milone. Ricardo started his English course with Viv just over one year ago, and has nearly finished the Pre-intermediate level. His progress (and that of Junior, who started the same course a few months before Ricardo) has been impressive, and resulted in him being classified as intermediate in a recent test not administered by Viv.

Have fun during the Carnival!

If you'd like some Carnival vocab. ask Viv for edition 4.
