Welcome!

A warm welcome to Roberta who has just started classes with Viv.

Holidays

Viv will be on holiday from the 19th of December until the ninth of January. Students will receive their bill for December one week before the end of term and I would be grateful if  it could be paid before the holiday.

Christmas activity

Every year Viv tries to find something different to do as an end of year activity. This year I'll be asking all of you to choose a film on either DVD or video and we'll spend your last class(es) watching it and talking about it. The first part of Viv's film library list was on page 2 of the last edition of the Newsletter. There's a continuation of that list on the back of this edition. If you'd like to see the full list, there's a copy on Viv's web site. Click on the following links:

The students / current/ex-students / video club / video club films. If possible, we'll also spend your last class of the year singing 'The twelve days of Christmas'!

Holiday homework

Viv will be asking his students to complete two exercises during the three-week break in classes. Firstly, write a summary of the film you saw in class. Secondly, try to find the mistakes in your past e-mail sent to the teacher.

What's new?

The DVD club is turning out to be quite successful and some very good film summaries have been written. Please return the films in one week. If you haven't found the time to do the DVD activity then you can choose another film to do it on. However, you won't be able to borrow another DVD or video from Viv until the exercise has been completed. The three 'Lord of the rings' films are now available to students.

Vocabulary tests

This time, Viv has been more lenient than usual with regards to delays in taking the tests. This is an exception due to the fact that various students have end of term exams at university. Don't forget that Viv doesn't usually allow tests to be delayed, so don't expect to be able to put off the next tests, which will be a back of notebook test in January.

Homework

Please try to keep up-to-date with your homework. Every time you fail to present work Viv has asked you to do, it slows down your progress through the course. If you continue to forget to do homework, eventually Viv will cancel your class when you arrive for it. You will also be charged for this class. If you can't find time to complete homework between classes I recommend that you look for another teacher.

Student of the month

My last student of the month for 2004 is Juliana Caetano. Juliana is a Press  officer working for a public relations firm and since starting classes in August this year she has worked very hard on improving her English and has made considerable progress. She presents work on time and of a high standard.
