Happy Birthday!

I wish both Nara and Bia a very happy birthday for the 20th and 25th of January respectively. In February I'd also like to give Paty Alpande (11th) and Juliana Caetano (12th) my birthday greetings.

Congratulations

Juliana Frota has passed the end of course test and the pre-intermediate level. Well done!

Holidays

The 20th of January is a day off in Rio, but if you would like to have a class on this day, just let Viv know.

However, There won't be any classes between the 6th and 13th of February because Viv will be taking a week off for the Carnival.

The good news! :-))

Due to the fact that lots of Viv's students are away between Christmas and the Carnival, he is usually able to offer a reduction in the cost of extra classes for those who would like to use this time to make progress with their English studies. Therefore, until the Carnival holiday, if you would like to have some extra classes, Viv will only charge half price for the cost of these additional classes. For example, if you usually have 2 hours per week, and have 4 hours instead, you will only be charged for 3 hours of classes.

The bad news! :-((

Every year Viv is forced to re-evaluate what he charges for classes. This is because he has to cover increases in inflation and his rent. Thankfully, inflation dropped last year, but Viv will still have to increase the cost of classes by R$1. In February, the cost of classes will be (contact Viv for details).

Course news

One of the doormen at Viv's flat will be on holiday in January. This means that if you arrive for a class after 8pm you'll have to ring his doorbell and Viv will come down and let you in. Make sure you know the number of his flat if you think you might arrive after 8pm.

Not everyone has completed the past e-mail activity set for Xmas homework. If you haven't done it, we will make the corrections in class, which will mean that you'll lose some time which could be spent on making progress with your course book. Everyone will have a back of notebook test in February and will write out Viv's angry pages correctly.

Student of the month

My student of the month of this edition is Cristina Cadore.

She started having classes with Viv in March 2003. Although she has taken a long time to complete the intermediate level, her English has improved considerably since she started classes. It is very difficult to successfully complete a level only having one class per week, and it takes a lot of concentration to work hard through a two-hour class. I'd like to congratulate Cristina on her hard work and dedication under difficult conditions. Well done!

Features

How are you progressing in relation to Viv's other students? In order to help you evaluate your progress I've put a list of students' results in the vocabulary and back of notebook tests in 2004.
