Welcome!

Viv would like to welcome Yildiz who will be doing a short intensive course in May and June.

Welcome back!

It's good to see Maira, who has returned after giving a presentation in English in the USA. Viv's also happy to see Ana Paula again after her trip to America.

Good luck!

I wish good luck to Adele whose English course finished in March. I also wish all the best for the future to Juliana Fagundes and Jovana, who have suspended classes.

Last but not least, I hope that everything goes well for Isabel when she takes the Cambridge First Certificate exam in June.

Happy Birthday!

May is the month with the most student birthdays. I wish a very happy birthday to Lyrene, Maria, Marcela, Elaine and Magda who celebrate their birthdays on the 4th, 7th, 8th, 14th and 27th of this month. Birthday greetings too, to Monica and Viv, whose birthdays are on the same day - June the fifth.

Holidays

The last long weekend for several months will be on the 26th of May. Viv will not be working between the 26th and 29th of May.

What's new?

Viv has decided to extend the length of time students can keep DVDs they borrow. You now have two weeks to watch the film and complete the DVD activity. However, please don't keep the film for longer than this so that the DVD is available for other people to watch.

Viv's library has expanded. He has bought several new graded readers (simplified books). These can be borrowed for up to a month. If you want your English to improve more quickly, always write a summary of the book you've read. When you combine skills (reading and writing, reading and speaking etc.), your English will improve much faster.

Course News

Everyone will be doing a vocabulary test in the next two weeks. If you find it difficult to learn the words in your notebook, take a look at Viv's worksheet called 'Learning Vocabulary'. You can find it on his web site in the features section of Edition 8 of the Newsletter. To find this worksheet, go to Viv's site, click on 'The Students', then on 'Student Newsletters'. After this, select 'Back Issues 1 - 20' and scroll down to edition number 8. Click on the blue link that says 'Features' and the vocabulary worksheet should appear.

Homework :-((

Viv has been forced to cancel several classes in the last two months because students have not completed homework for more than two weeks. If you can't find time to complete homework, Viv will not be able to help you improve your English. You can find the conditions regarding the completion of homework on Viv's site (The Teacher / Conditions for classes X2).
