Congratulations!

Congratulations to Cristina Cadore who has completed the intermediate level.

Good luck!

I wish the best of luck to Paula C, who has terminated her English course.

Happy Birthday!

This will be the last Newsletter until September, so Viv will take the opportunity to wish Cristiana (25 July), Ana Paula and Maria Duarte (20 August) and Patricia Cunha (28 August) a very happy birthday.

Holidays

Viv will be on holiday in August. He is going back to England for one month, so there won't be any classes between the 7th of August and the 11th of September. Viv hasn't seen his friends and family for over two years and is looking forward to spending some time in the UK.

If you know when you are going on holiday, please try to tell Viv as far in  advance as possible so that he can plan his timetable.

Course news

If you've borrowed one of the books in Viv's English library, don't forget that there are usually exercises to do at the back of the book, and there may also be a glossary (list of the most difficult words and what they mean). If you do the exercises, you'll find that your English improves more quickly, but if you haven't got time to do the exercises, don't worry, just through reading English you will revise both the vocabulary and grammar you have studied in class.

The class activities for the next two months will be the past e-mail activity and a video activity. Before Viv goes on holiday, he will ask everyone to write out their 'Viv's angry pages' correctly and do a 'back of notebook' test at the end of July.

Vocabulary Cards

All of Viv's students at upper-intermediate level and above  organise their prepositions and phrasal verbs on vocabulary cards. We put the preposition on one side of a small square of card, and the verb or expression connected with the preposition on the reverse. This technique can also be used to help you learn vocabulary. If learning vocabulary is a problem for you, ask Viv for details.

Features

Most of Viv's students who have been having classes for over five months have their own personal web page. You can find these pages on his web site by following the 'Student's' link, then clicking on 'Current and ex-students'. So far there have been over 4,800 visits to Viv's site from around the world and on the back of this month's Newsletter is a list of the countries, with the flags, of some of these visitors.

Student of the month

My student of the month for June is Maria Duarte. She works for the Portinari Project in Rio and is studying at the pre-intermediate level. In the last few months she has dedicated more time to working on improving her English and her progress has been very impressive. Well done!
