Congratulations!

Well done Isabel! In June she passed the Cambridge First Certificate in English Examination. Isabel started having classes with Viv at the pre-intermediate level in 2001 and has now successfully completed three levels. Congralations are also in order for Marliana, who passed the pre-intermediate level in July with a pass mark in her end of course test of 88%. Another student to pass a level of English is Nara Borges. She completed the very difficult upper-intermediate level in July and is now working abroad in the Sultanate of Oman.

Welcome!

Viv would like to welcome two new students. Tatiana, who is starting a course at the elementary level, and Liana, who will be doing an intermediate language course.

Good luck!

I wish Monica Jaen the best of luck for the future. She has started a post-graduate course in environmental studies in Canada. I also wish good luck to Patricia Alpande, who terminated her course in June this year.

Welcome back!

Viv is happy to welcome  back Danusa Fernandes after her course in France.

Happy Birthday

Two birthdays have escaped mention in the Newsletter. Verusya celebrated hers on the 24th and Liana on the 30th of September. I wish a happy birthday to Melissa and Marliana, whose birthdays are on the 11th and 21st of November.

Holidays

Viv won't be working on the 12th of October or the second of November. He will also be taking a long weekend from the 12th to the 15th of November.

Course news

When you come for your classes in October, you may have to enter Viv's building through the garage because the entrance hall will be painted and the floor resurfaced. Mr Miguel, the doorman, will show you way in.

Everyone will be doing a video activity based on one of the films in Viv's DVD club in October. This will take place in three consecutive classes and will involve watching one of Viv's favourite films, and talking about it both before and after viewing.

In November, it will be time for all Viv's students to do another vocabulary test, so if you start revising for it now, you won't have any problems passing it later on! :-))

Student of the month

My student of the month for October is Cristiane Lećo. She is a law student at the Catholic University and started having classes with Viv in July 2004. She has been working very hard on improving her English and is now beginning to speak and write the language well.

Features

This month's feature is a composition written by Ana Paula. It's a summary of one of the tales in the book 'Ghost Stories', which is one of the FCE set books for the examination in December.
