Welcome!

Viv would like to welcome Clarissa, who has just started a course at the advanced level.

Welcome back!

It's nice to see Cynthia again after a two-year break in classes.

Good luck!

Viv would like to wish Lyrene Fernandes the best of luck for the future. She has stopped her course to return home to Rio Grande do Norte.

Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday to Viv!!!!!!!! His birthday is on the 5th of June. In July, Cristiana and Michelle celebrate their birthdays on the 25th and 28th respectively.

Holidays & Football!

Viv won't be working from the 15th to the 18th of June because of the Corpus Christi holiday.

He will also not be teaching when Brazil and England are playing in the World Cup. The dates of the England matches are the 10th of June at 10am (Paraguay) and the 20th of June at 4pm (Sweden). The Brazil matches will be on the 13th of June at 4pm (Croatia) and the 22nd at 4pm (Japan). If England and/or Brazil get through to the next round, their matches will either be on the 24th of June at 12pm (England) or on the 26th or 27th of June at 12pm (Brazil).

The quarter finals will be on the 30th of June and 1st of July, the semi-finals on the 4th and 5th of July, the 3rd place play-off on the 8th and the final on the 9th of July. Let's hope that both teams do well, and Viv hopes that Brazil doesn't knock out England AGAIN!!!!! :-)

If you'd like to learn some vocabulary about football, there's an excellent web page on the BBC site at:

What's new?

Viv has spent a lot of time working on his vocabulary database. It's designed to help you learn the words in your notebook, and in the next few weeks all Viv's students will be introduced to the program. If you want, you can take a copy of it home and add words yourself. You need Microsoft Access on your computer for the program to work.

Course News

If you are currently having over two hours of classes per week and your bill comes to more than R$300, then if possible, Viv will arrange extra free classes to make your progress faster. This will, of course depend on time being available in his timetable.

Student of the month

The student of the month for May is Tatiana Solomão. When she started classes in 2005 she couldn't speak any English at all, and now, after a lot of hard work, she is beginning to speak and write very well. It's very rewarding to see a student make so much progress in such a short time. Well done!
