Welcome!

Viv would like to welcome Andrea and Milena, who have recently started English courses with Viv.

Welcome back!

It's nice to see Magda, Michelle and Walter again after the break in classes.

Congratulations!

Cristiana passed the difficult intermediate level in October this year. Well done.

Good luck!

Viv wishes the best of luck to Cynthia, Ella and Liana, who have suspended or terminated their English courses.

Happy birthday!

Happy birthday to Andrea for the 26th of December, and to Roberta, Flavia, Nara and Bia, whose birthdays are on January the 8th, 14th, 20th and 25th respectively.

Holidays

Viv will not be working from the 23rd of December until the 5th of January. He would like to ask all his students to pay their December bills before the holiday so that Viv can buy his Christmas presents!           :-))

Course news

With one exception, everyone has passed the vocabulary tests. It was interesting to see that the students who used Viv's Vocabulary Database were the most successful, even those who used to have difficulty passing these tests. Flavia got the top score with eighteen out of twenty. This is an exceptional result because she has been using the same notebook since she started her upper-intermediate course in June 2005. The next edition of the Newsletter will list students' vocabulary and back of notebook test results this year so that you can compare your progress with Viv's other students. Your past test results are a good way to measure your motivation to improve your English because you will only fail a test twice if you haven't got enough motivation to study. Anyone failing the same test three times will have their course suspended for one month, and if you fail the same test a fourth time, your English course will be terminated.

In January everyone will have another back of notebook test.

Student of the month

Viv's student of the month for December is Michelle Sá, who works for Ipiranga. She started classes with Viv, at the intermediate level, in March 2006 and in July of the same year she went to do a three-month language course in Canada. In these three months, she was able to complete a level of English, which in Brazil would usually take one year, and when she re-started classes with Viv in November, she was able to start at the upper-intermediate level. This amount of progress in such a short time, involves a lot of hard work and dedication. Well done!

Features

The holiday homework at the end of this year will be to write a summary of the film we watch in the last two classes. On page two of this edition is Viv's favourite summary of last year's film, selected from his upper-intermediate and advanced students.
