 Welcome

A warm welcome to Tita, who has recently started English classes with Viv.

Congratulations!

Marliana Alcantara passed the intermediate level of English in December last year. This level is both one of the most important and difficult to pass, so well done to Marliana who has been having classes since starting at the beginner level in the year 2000.

Good luck!

I hope everything goes well for Leticia, who has stopped classes to have a baby. I also wish the best of luck to Cristina, Cristiane and Juliana Martins who have terminated their courses.

Happy birthday!

Birthday greetings to Claudia (16 Feb), Fernanda, Manu & Maira (14, 26, 28 March) and Isabel (8 April).

Holidays

Viv will be on holiday for the Carnival from the 2nd to the 8th of February. He would be grateful if his students could pay their bill for January before this holiday if possible. In March, the Easter holiday will be from the 21st to the 23rd and in April the Tiradentes holiday will be on the twenty-first, so Viv will not be working this weekend.

Price of classes

At the beginning of every year Viv has to re-evaluate the cost of classes based on inflation in previous year and the rise in price of his rent, which went up by R$100 last December. As a result of this, he will be charging (contact Viv for details) from February, a rise of R$1.

Course news

Thanks to recommendations made by Bia Revilla, Viv has made some modifications to his Vocabulary Database. Everyone will be able to see these improvements in their next few classes.

Viv has decided to put off the back of notebook tests to February and do his 'Viv's angry pages' exercise in January. There will be vocabulary tests in March and in April, students will check and update their internet web pages and use the internet to practice their English in class.

Student of the month

Viv's first student of the month in 2008 is Flavia Campbell who got the highest average score in the vocabulary and back of notebook tests last year. Twice Flavia nearly won a month's free classes, which is the prize for any student who is able to get twenty out of twenty in either the vocabulary or back of notebook tests. The rules for being eligible for this prize are at the bottom of the 'features' page of this newsletter.

I would also like to congratulate Michelle, who passed all the tests first time, and Claudia who got the second highest average score.

Features

As mentioned above, page two of this Newsletter shows the vocabulary and back of notebook test results in 2007 for all Viv's students.

A new feature of this table is a column showing the average score over all the tests taken (score divided by number of tests), and the rules for prize for getting 100%! :-)
