Cost of classes
At the beginning of the year, Viv has to change to cost of classes to cover inflation in the previous year. Therefore, from January, he will be charging (contact Viv for details) per hour.
Holidays
Viv will not be working on the 20th and 21st of January (Saint Sebastian's Day - the patron saint of Rio). The Carnival holiday will be from the 18th to the 24th of February and Easter will be on the 6th and 7th of April. Tiradentes Day is on the 21st of April, but if Viv's Saturday students would like to come for their classes, he will be working normally. However, he won't be working on Tuesday 1st of May (May Day).
Course news
Viv has bought some new graded readers (simplified novels to help students become more confident reading books). Please don't write anything in these books (if you want to note down any new words, write them on a separate piece of paper, adding the page and paragraph number).
Don't forget that classes can only be cancelled in advance without charge if you contact Viv at least 24 hours before the class. If you call Viv on the night before your English class, I'm sorry to say that you will have to pay for the class because it's virtually impossible for Viv to offer your class time to another student.
In the first four months of 2012, there will be two vocabulary tests (January and April), a back of notebook test in February, and everyone will be eliminating their "Viv's angry pages" expressions in the first two months of the year. There will be four vocabulary tests (every 3 months) and three back of notebook tests (every four months) for Viv's students in 2012.
Student of the month
The student of the month for this edition of the Newsletter is Renata Sterea. She has been having classes with Viv since 2008 and she is now speaking and writing English much more fluently and correctly. Well done Renata!!!
Features
On page 2 of the Newsletter is a list of the vocabulary and back of notebook test scores for all Viv's students, including the average score for all tests.
If your average score is below 12, you need to dedicate a bit more time to revising for these notebook tests.
