Look at these dialogues.

 

( C = Caller -person who is telephoning. = You.)

 

1. Caller wants to speak to somebody who isn't there. (Doesn't leave a message)

 

       Hello. Sholl International.

C         Hello. Could I speak to Mr. Renato Anysio, please.

       I'm sorry, He isn't here at the moment. Can I take a message?

C         No, that's alright. I'll call again later.

       OK. Bye.

C         Good-bye.

 

2. Caller wants to speak to somebody who isn't there. (Leaves a message).

 

        Hello. Sholl International.

C         Hello. Could I speak to Mr. Renato Anysio, please.

        I'm sorry, but he's not here at the moment. Can I take a message?

C         Yes. Could you tell him that Mr. Williams from International Export called, and ask him to ring me back. My number is 336 129.

       OK, Mr Williams. I'll give him the message.

C         Thank you. Good-bye.

        Good-bye.

 

3. A caller who knows.

 

        Hello. Sholl International.

C         Hello. Could I speak to Marcia Ferreira, please.

        This is Marcia speaking.

C         Hello Marcia, It's John here.

        Hello John. What can I do for you?

C         Could you send me the report on our new products, please.

        Yes, certainly. I'll post it to you today.

C         Thanks very much. Bye.

        Good-bye.

 

4. A caller who doesn't know.

 

        Hello. Sholl International.

C         Hello. Could I speak to Marcia Ferreira, please.

        This is Marcia Ferreira speaking.

C         Hello. This is John Williams from International Export Limited. I'd like to make an appointment to see you some time this week. It's about our new product.

        Hold on a minute. Let me check my diary............Hello, Mr. Williams? How about next Wednesday at 3pm?

C         Yes. That will be fine. I'll see you at your office at 3pm on Wednesday.

        Ok. Good-bye.

C         Good-bye.
