( C = Caller -person who is telephoning. = Person answering the telephone)

 

1. Asking for and giving information.

        Hello. Sholl International.

C         Hello. Could I speak to Mr Anysio, please?

        Speaking.

C         Hello. This is Frank Williams from the Finance Department. Could you tell me the exchange rate for the US Dollar, please. 

        Yes, certainly. Hold on a moment please........It's  1.90.

C         And what about the Euro?

        That's 2.3

C         OK. Thank you very much.

        You're welcome. Good-bye.

C         Good-bye.

 

2. Asking for something which is unavailable.

        Hello. Sholl International.

C         Hello. This is Frank Williams from Finance. Could I make an appointment to see Mr. Anysio for later today, please.

        I'm sorry, but I'm afraid Mr. Anysio is on leave this week. He'll be available on the 19th. Would you like to make an appointment for then or do you     want to call again later?

C         I'll ring back after the 19th.

        OK Mr Williams, I'll be expecting your call. Good-bye.

C         Thank you. Good-bye.

 

3. Caller wants to cancel an appointment.

        Hello. Sholl International.

C         Hello. My name is Frank Williams. I arranged a meeting with Mr Renato Anysio for next Friday at 3pm, but I'm afraid I won't be able to get there. Can we rearrange it for next Friday morning?

        Hold on a moment, please. I'll check his diary...... Hello, Mr Williams?

C         Yes.

        I'm afraid he's busy in the morning. How about on Tuesday morning? Can you make it then?

C         No, I'm afraid I can't. Let's put it off until next week. I'll ring you back to confirm a date and time.

        OK Mr Williams. I look forward to hearing from you. Good-bye.

C         Good-bye.
