Welcome!

A warm welcome to Patricia Alpande, who started classes with Viv in November.

Holidays

Christmas and New Year's Eve is here once again. Viv won't be teaching between the 22nd of December and the fifth of January. This will mean a two-week break in classes, but it won't mean two weeks without studying English (I hope!). After the break everyone will get a 'back of notebook' test, and I will want to see the correct versions of all 'Viv's angry pages' from the last time you did this until now. Please use the computer to write out the correct form of the sentences.

I'd prefer everyone to send me their corrections by e-mail.

Congratulations!

Three students should be completing levels in the next few weeks (successfully?). Marliana (Elem.), Vanessa  (Pre-int.) and Marilena  (Intermediate). Congratulations on the hard work and dedication needed to complete a level.

Ex-students

If you are an ex-student who is reading this edition on the web site and haven't received a copy by e-mail it's because from now on I will only keep ex-students on my mailing list if they reply to show they have received the Newsletter.

If you don't want to receive it any more, just don't reply and I'll remove you from the list. However, if you would like to continue receiving it and haven't, just let me know.

What's new on the web?

I'm always looking for ways to make learning more effective and efficient, and to help in this I have formulated conditions for students who want to continue having classes after passing a course at intermediate level and above. Another novelty is that everyone finishing a level (who is over 18) is also entitled to a 'bar class', just ask Viv for details.

These new rules can be found in the 'conditions for classes' section of the web site (the teacher). I have also put some more final drafts of your compositions on the site. You can find them in the "student's work" section (the students).

Student of the month

The last student of the month for 2002 is Marilena Souto Petros. She works as a dentist, and started classes with Viv in February 2002. She has completed the intermediate level in record time, finishing it in just ten months. Well done!

How am I doing?

The end of the year seems like a good time to review your progress in 2002. On the back of this month's edition are your vocabulary and back of notebook test results for this year. I've only used initials. If you would like to see why Viv tests learning and vocab. look at Newsletter 8 (on the web site under 'the students' link (back issues).

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to everyone. Don't be surprised if you end up singing the carols featured in Newsletter edition 15 before the holidays begin! Have fun and see you all again in 2003!
