Welcome!

A warm welcome to Nara, who works for  Shell Brasil and Walter who is a flight attendant working for Varig.

Good luck!

I wish Ricardo Milone the best of luck for the future. He Started having classes with Viv in October 1998, and suspended classes in October 2002 due to pressures of work.

Happy Birthday!

A very happy birthday to Fernanda and Paula C, whose birthdays are on the 14th and 19th of March, and to Patricia DN and Isabel who will celebrate their birthdays on the 3rd and 8th of April.

The carnival

Viv will be on holiday from the first to the sixth of March. Please let me know in advance if you will not be in Rio on any dates after this period.

What's new?

Viv represents an English language school in the UK, and several of his students have done courses there. On his request, the site now has a version in Portuguese. Their web site is at:

www.cicero.co.uk

For his students, Viv can offer a 30% discount on the cost of courses, and a 20% discount for anyone he is not currently teaching.

Cicero also has a translations department, so if you know of anyone who needs translation work done - Portuguese to English or vice versa, give them my e-mail address and I'll get them a quote for the translation cost in US dollars.

What's new on the web?

From the response to Viv's web site quizzes, all his students must  be very rich, with no one interested in winning a free class. So far, he hasn't received any attempts at the quizzes on his home page, and if there is no interest in the next two months I'll end the promotion.

For some reason the web site counter, hosted by Gheos, is off line at the moment, but I've put the answers to the first web site quiz question on the back of this month's Newsletter. The question asked for the adjectives for 20 countries from which people had visited the web site.

Parking for English classes

After being informed by the administrators of the 'Self Park' car park that they were increasing their monthly charge by 20%, I had decided to stop reserving a place for my students. However, several students suggested that if I continued reserving a space it would still be cheaper for everyone than paying separately, and also more convenient. Therefore I will keep the space providing that the number of people who use it doesn't drop too much. It's more expensive now, but that is beyond my control.

Student of the month

My student of the month for March is Ana Lucia Brandão, who has been having classes since May 2002. She is a statistician who does consultancy work, and although she only has one class per week, she has worked very hard on improving her English and is making good progress.
