Good luck!

I'd like to start the last edition of 2003 by wishing Joana and Paula the best of luck in the Cambridge Advanced Exam, which they are taking this month.

Happy Birthday!

There are two birthdays in December and two in January. I wish a very happy birthday to Adele and Vanessa, both of whose birthdays are on the ninth of December, and to Nara and Bia, whose birthdays are on the 20th and 25th of January.

Holidays!

Christmas is coming and so is New Year's Eve. Viv will be on holiday for two weeks from the 21st of December to the 4th of January.

I'll send everyone their bills on the seventh of December and would be very grateful if you could pay them before the holiday.

Holiday homework

I will be sending everyone their past e-mail documents for correction. The format has changed; this time I will highlight the mistakes in red, and send you the file by e-mail. If you can find the mistakes, change the colour to blue. If you can't see what's wrong, just leave it in red. Don't worry, I'll give you a demonstration in class first! I will also be asking everyone to write out their 'Viv's angry pages' correctly.

What's new?

Reliable professionals who provide services are often very difficult to find. A few months ago I had problems with my computer and wanted to install a cd-rom. Using the classified ads, I found Junior, who attracted my attention because the ad said that if he couldn't fix the problem, he wouldn't charge anything. He came to my flat, sorted out the problem and charged a fair price. If you have any computer problems I can recommend him. His telephone numbers are:

(contact Viv for details).

If you know any service providers who you would recommend, tell Viv and I'll put their details in future editions of the Newsletter.

Student of the month

My last student of the month for 2003 is Vanessa Macedo.

She works as a journalist for RNP and has been having classes with Viv since March 2001. She started at the pre-intermediate level, completed it successfully and is now half way through an intermediate course. She has worked very hard over the last few months and is beginning to dominate the English language very well.

Features

The end of the year is a good time to evaluate progress. Page two of the Newsletter this month has a list of all my student's vocabulary and back of notebook test results. I was a bit disappointed this month by the number of people who failed their vocabulary tests first time, but at least virtually everyone has passed in the end!

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

I hope that you all enjoy the Christmas break and have a fun New Year's Eve.
