Happy Birthday!
A very happy birthday to Isabel (the 8th April) and Fernanda B & Lyrene, whose birthdays are on the 2nd and 4th of May respectively.

There was nothing but good news in February. Viv was the happiest teacher in Rio when ALL of his students passed their back of notebook tests! All scores of 12 and above won one of Viv's smiley face t-shirts. However, the results to the vocabulary tests in April weren't so good, with six students failing to reach the ten words out of twenty pass mark. If you failed, you'll have to take the test every week until you pass it. Juliana won the English diary with a score of 18.5/20.

In March there was more good news. Two of Viv's students (Paula and Joana) took the Cambridge Advanced Examination in December 2003. Paula has been having classes with Viv since Sept. 1996 and Joana had just two months of classes before taking the exam. Both students passed, Paula getting grade B and Joana grade C. Well done to both of them!

Congratulations to Sara and Fernanda T. Sara successfully completed the upper-intermediate level and Fernanda the intermediate level.
Holidays
Viv will not be working on the ninth and tenth of April due to the Easter holiday. If you need to cancel classes before or after the holiday, please give Viv the details by e-mail as soon as possible. If you will miss a class and would like to try to arrange a different time, send me a message with the time you have available and I'll do my best to find a time for you.
Viv will also be on holiday on the 21st of April and the 1st of May. Any other holidays which the local government has been kind enough to provide (like Zumbi Day), Viv will be working normally. Just let him know if you won't be coming for a class.
Course news
The next activities planned are a past e-mail activity in April and Viv's angry pages in June. There will be a special reading exercise for everyone in May.
Student of the month
Every so often Viv selects one of his students who has made outstanding progress recently. My student of the month for April is Juliana Frota. She started an intensive English course two months ago and her progress has been notable. Well done!
Features
My thanks to Beatriz Revilla who sent me this month's feature on page 2 of this edition. It's a list of rules to help Portuguese speakers form certain words in English. However, I must stress that there are lots of exceptions to these rules, so don't think that you can use them all the time.
